As organisations become more digital and use more digital tools to interact with the world's most vulnerable, we need to ensure we are keeping the rights and literacy (linguistic and digital) of those with whom we work at the forefront of our thinking. Those with whom we work are not homogenous groups; rather literacy rates vary as does an understanding of their rights. For many vulnerable people, there is a significant need for aid and due to their life experiences, they will trade their data for it without thinking and without an understanding that they have any options. As we build our digital capabilities, we need to consider how we can enable control and choice for the vulnerable in ways they understand, are appropriate, and are empowering.
