In this session, members of the Innovation for Change (I4C) program will share why and how we used Developmental Evaluation, a mixed-methods approach to evaluation, to understand and learn about a civil society network’s impact and growth while working in complex and unpredictable contexts.
For the first half of the session, our panelists will discuss our DE methodology, why we used it, and the processes, tools, and technology that made it possible. We will showcase ways to use quantitative and qualitative data to demonstrate impact and make decisions to adapt. Then we will dig into the participatory processes (both successes and failures) that I4C members used to interpret their data and reflect on learning in the areas of civic space issues, innovation, network growth, governance, and impact. We will close the formal presentation with candid lessons learned and findings.
In the second half of the session, our panelists will facilitate break-out groups in which participants can reflect upon what they’ve heard, connect it to their own work (past, present, and future), and discuss, “Is DE right for you?” using our Critical Considerations Checklist.
