Not only is the use of mobile devices pivotal in collecting real-time information but it further generates data and translates raw input into meaningful information. By building backend logic and calculations to automatically determine eligibility for a girls' HIV support group based on the girls' answers, this pre-programed algorithm allowed data collectors to rapidly administer the tool and immediately receive results: a popup with the girl’s eligibility and instructions appeared. The screening tool was rapidly deployed with great success. With mobile devices, the use of open source software, and an strong digital ecosystem our "smart" eligibility screening tool is extremely effective and efficient.
