GitHub is the world's largest host of the open source ecosystem - from software, to data, to frameworks, to methodologies and beyond. Despite the importance of open source to the MERL community, overall adoption is not as high as it could be. As a result, too much MERL data is gathering dust in insecure spreadsheets, impossible to use cross-platform, or stuck in proprietary software with no way out.

Our research shows one of the biggest challenges to increasing adoption among most non-techy communities is they simply don’t have a central place to “buy” or even browse open source tools in an intuitive manner. In this lightning talk, Mala will present GitHub’s MERL Tech marketplace idea to take on that challenge and help the MERL tech community find open source solutions to do their work better.
