As MERL practitioners seeking to understand and learn from the impact of our work, we’re increasingly flooded with quantitative and qualitative information. While an abundance of free, versatile, online tools exist for quantitative data visualization and analysis, the same can’t be said for qualitative tools.

This two-hour workshop is comprised of two sections. The first will expose participants to tools like MonkeyLearn, OverviewDocs, and DataBasic that help us make sense of qualitative information using things like collaborative coding or semantic analysis. In the second section, with the help of a sample qualitative dataset that’s relevant to the global development context, participants will make sense of that qualitative dataset using one of the qualitative tools to present key insights to the group. If time permits, we'll introduce one data visualization tool to help participants depict those insights!
